Transfer data with Samsung Smart Switch

Are you going to buy a new Samsung? But don’t want to lose all your contacts, photos, music, and apps from your old phone? No problem, because with Samsung Smart Switch you can transfer all your data quickly and easily. I’ll tell you all about it.

How does Smart Switch work?

You can transfer data from Samsung to Samsung, but also from an iPhone to your new Samsung Galaxy phone. Very handy! You can do this in three ways: via a USB cable, via the computer, or wirelessly. 

Transfer data from an Android phone to your Samsung 

To transfer data from an Android phone to your new Samsung, first, open Smart Switch on both phones. This is how you do this:

  • Go to the settings menu and choose ‘Accounts’.
  • Then tap “Backup” and “Smart Switch.”
  • Choose ‘Get data from an old device’.
  • If prompted, tap “Agree” and “Allow.”

  • Select ‘Get data’ on your new phone.
  • Select Galaxy/Android.
  • Connect your old Android phone to your new Samsung. This can be done via WiFi or a USB cable.
  • Are the phones connected? Then you choose which data you want to import.
  • Tap “Transfer” and follow the on-screen instructions.

Transfer data from an iPhone to your Samsung 

Also, information about your iPhoneTransferring to your Samsung is very easy. Note: do turn off the two-step verification on your Apple ID before you start the process. First, open Smart Switch on your new Samsung:

  • Go to the settings menu and choose ‘Accounts’.
  • Then tap “Backup” and “Smart Switch.”
  • Choose ‘Get data from an old device’.
  • If prompted, tap “Agree” and “Allow.”

To transfer data wirelessly, do this:

  • Select ‘Receive data’ on your new Samsung.
  • Select iPhone/iPad.
  • Click “Get data from iCloud instead.”
  • Enter your iCloud username and password and tap Sign In.
  • Choose which basic information you want to import.
  • You will then be given the option to download media such as photos, videos, and documents.
  • Transfer completed? Tap “Close App.”

Do you want to transfer data with a cable?

  • Open the Smart Switch on your new phone as described above.
  • Connect your Samsung phone and your iPhone with a USB-C connector and your Lightning cable.
  • Tap ‘Next’ on your Samsung phone and follow the instructions.
  • Your Samsung will now search and connect to your iPhone. Choose which information you want to transfer and press ‘Transfer’.

What exactly can you transfer with Smart Switch?

Are you going to transfer files to your new Samsung? Then you can choose which files these are. However, not all content can be transferred:

  • Secure or encrypted data, such as WhatsApp chats
  • Usernames and passwords of apps
  • Apps not downloaded from the Play Store
  • Login details of, for example, mobile banking.

Good to know: if you transfer apps from an Apple phone, a specific app may not be in the Google Play Store. Smart Switch will then attempt to download an alternative. If there is no alternative, the app will not be transferred.
