Then you can change the Netflix language. Do you watch Undercover and do you find it difficult to understand the dialect? You can then switch on the Dutch subtitles to follow everything a lot easier. Netflix has all kinds of setting options to make watching as comfortable as possible. The same goes for language.
With many series and films, you can adjust both the spoken language and the language of the subtitles. You just need to know how to set it up. For example, on your phone or the app for your smart TV.
Netflix in the wrong language? Change spoken Netflix language
Is that exciting Scandinavian detective indeed automatically spoken in English? And do you want to follow it – of course – in Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, Finnish, or Icelandic?
You can then change the spoken Netflix language. This is possible if you play the film or series.
- Tap or swipe the screen, and press the up or down arrow button on your television, or the center button on your Apple TV.
- You will now see different icons. Click on the icon for Audio & Subtitles. This is a square conversation bubble.
- Under ‘Audio’ you can see in which spoken languages you can watch the film or series.
- Do you want to change the Netflix language to the original language the video was shot in? That is the language next to [Original].
Enable or change subtitle language on Netflix
Netflix automatically shows Dutch subtitles if the spoken language is not Dutch. Would you also like subtitles for a Flemish or Dutch film or series on Netflix?
Or subtitles especially for the deaf and hard of hearing? That is often possible too! Handy if, for example, you have the sound turned down and find it more difficult to follow.
- Tap or swipe the screen, and press the up or down arrow button on your television, or the center button on your Apple TV.
- You will now see different icons. Click on the icon for Audio & Subtitles. This is a square conversation bubble.
- Under ‘Subtitles’ you can see in which languages subtitles are available.
- Select the language in which you want subtitles.
- Do you want subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing? This is also included in this list, if available.
Can you also change the Netflix language when you are offline?
Changing the language you stream in on Netflix is a snap. But what if you watch a movie or series on Netflix offline and you want to change the spoken language or subtitles?
First of all, you must have saved the title offline in order to watch it. With most titles, even if you watch them offline on Netflix, you can adjust the spoken language and subtitles.
You may be able to choose from fewer languages and subtitles than when you are online.
