How can you turn off your iPhone’s flashlight?

Ask Siri
Do you use Siri on your iPhone? Then you can just ask this smart voice assistant. “Hey Siri, turn off the flashlight” is enough!
Through the lock screen
Turning off the iPhone flashlight via the lock screen is the fastest way. You don’t have to unlock your phone. Just tap your screen to turn it on and hold the flashlight icon in the bottom left for a while. The flashlight will now turn off automatically.
An even faster way? That is just swiping your screen to the left. As you always do when you want to use the camera.
Via the control panel
Is your phone unlocked while using the flashlight? You can also turn off your flashlight. You do this via the control panel.
On newer iPhones like the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13, this works slightly differently than on older iPhone models. I’ll explain.
Turn off flashlight on iPhones with Face ID:
- Swipe down from the top right corner of your screen.
- Tap the flashlight icon.
- Tap the flashlight icon again to turn it off.
Turn off flashlight on iPhones with a home button:
- Swipe up from the bottom of your screen.
- Tap the flashlight icon.
- Tap the flashlight icon again to turn it off.
Tip: if you can’t find the flashlight in your control panel, you’ll have to add it. You can do this in the Settings app.
Here, go to ‘Control Panel’ and then to ‘Adjust controls’. Here you can click on the plus sign next to the flashlight.
Lower the brightness of the flashlight
Don’t want to turn off your flashlight, but do you find the brightness a bit too much? Then you can also lower it. This is how you do this:
- On an iPhone with Face ID, swipe down from the top right corner to open Control Center. Or on an iPhone with a Home button, swipe up from the bottom of the screen to open Control Center.
- Press and hold the flashlight icon.
- Drag the slider down.
